Australasian Consumer Fraud Taskforce Fraud Awareness Week
March, 2010 Current News
Providing practical advice on how to avoid online scams is a popular and effective way of decreasing the amount of successful social engineering attacks perpetrated against the online community.
This is why Eunexus support the Australasian Consumer Fraud Taskforce (ACFT) scam and education campaign, which kicks-off on March 1 and runs for one week.
To assist with this initiative, Eunexus would like to provide these simple but effective tips for avoiding online scams;
- Banks don’t send you emails requesting your online banking access details. If you receive an email asking you to provide this information – delete it!
- Be careful about how you respond to emails you did not expect to receive. Usually the best course of action when dealing with unsolicited emails is to not click on any links in the email and ensure you delete it.
- If you receive an offer via email, that looks too good to be true, then it often is.
- Ensure your operating system and security software is kept up to date. This will go a long way in ensuring the latest threats will find it difficult to infect your computer.
The Internet offers many great products and services designed to simplify your day to day life. By exercising a common sense approach, your online experience should not be a negative one.
